The books of the Library „Zala briviba” (Green Freedom) will be available in digital format

The Library of „Zala briviba” (formerly known as the Green Library) contains books, periodicals, digital publications and video cassettes featuring environment protection issues. Collection contains resources on biology, ecology, environment protection, biological diversity, environment politics and law, sustainable development, energy, transport, landscape, construction, forestry, waste management, pollution, agriculture, food, gene engineering, environment education, environment and alternative economy, philosophy, feminism, culture, sociology, politics, history, mass media. The library emphasizes that the stock is high quality literature that is unavailable elsewhere in Latvia.




People with special needs help to scan books

In cooperation with the Latvia Deaf Union, people with hearing disabilities have been employed in the digitisation process. Several dosens of people carefully scan the books offered by various libraries and private persons.

Ideju forums has finalised the scanning of the Museum of Aspazija collection

Aspazija’s house – the filial of the Museum of Jurmala - has a library that contains over four thousand items from which two and a half thousand are books. Main collection consists of the books of Latvian exile literature collection that Osvalds Akmentins has donated to the Aspazija’s house, first editions of the books of Rainis and Aspazija dating between the end of 19th and beginning of 20th centuries, part of the private collections of Antons Birkerts and Jekabs Nimanis and several rare books with inscriptions. Books had been donated by people from Riga, Jurmala and by Latvians in exile. The Library is open to public since 1996.

Musicians dedicate lullabies to Fairytales portal

Musicians, performers, composers have responded to Fairytale portal www.pasakas.net initiative to record well or and less known lullabies, or to compose them especially for this project. Unexpectedly large number of musicians have answered to the invitation to dedicate their voice and time.
The first recorded lullabies have already been featured in the Fairytale portal. They have been recorded by Aivars Krancmanis, Ksenija Sundejeva and  Tribes of the city, Ilga Reizniece and Kaspars Rūķītis. In the nearest future recording by Amber music, Ēnas, Margo and other musicians shall be added. Also,  Gunārs Kalniņš, Jānis Jubalts, Kristīne Gailīte, Morning After, Rīgas Doma chorus school boys’ chorus, Mārtiņš Dambis with Confused, Kārlis Kazaks with Oceanfall, Goran Gora, Dzelzs vilks, Ambera, Ingus Pētersons, Mārtiņš Freimanis, Ance Krauze, Rostropoviča cello ansamble, Baiba Berķe, Anta Enģele and others have confirmed their participation in the project.

Project is supported by recording studio „Sounddivision”  and JSC „Gaismas upe”.

Dialogue - assistance program for blind people

Close your eyes and – you cannot read any further... They cannot read at all. Try to get up once with your eyes closed. To find the door. To open it, and, not stumbling, go to the street. Try to go to the nearest bank and pay your bills. Impossible?
There are people who have to do it. And they do. Except, they cannot see. But their imagination can substitute our vision.

Ideju Forums receives The Innovation Of The Year Award

At the event hosted by foundation "Ziedot" programm "NGO Institute" Ideju Forums received an award as "The best innovation of 2007". The prize was awarded for the fairytale portal www.pasakas.net.

 

 

Digitisation of French Culture Center library has been commenced

Multi-media library of French Culture Center offers nearly 12 000 documents, among them a special place is given to audio-visual materials and multi-media. Beginners and those wishing to learn French can access movies with subtitles, books translated into Latvian or Russian, as well as music records. Also, literature about France, European Union, history, philosophy, religion, social sciences, politics, economics, art, theater, cinema and other subjects can be found there.
